Will you be my Valentine?

Tequesta Park

Girl Scout firepit

Jeff and I decided to save most of Valentine’s Day for Friday (the 15th) since it is not uncommon for me to be stuck late after work.  So because we didn’t make plans, I got out on time!  We decided to go for a walk near home and found a couple of geocaches in Tequesta Park before deciding to walk to the grocery store to get stuffed pizza supplies.  This was Jeff’s first time finding caches and I think he found it fun enough to do more…

I had looked occasionally in the past using the c:geo app, but for some reason I always had trouble with accuracy and getting the app to work smoothly.  I just started using the official geocaching app through geocaching.com – works very smoothly for me and gives us a great excuse to get out for walks all over town.

Here are some examples of our finds in the last week!

I got a bunch of these little plastic feet super cheap online, and we are using them to leave our “signature” trinket when we can.

John D. MacArthur State Park

On actual Valentine’s Day, Jeff and I needed to waste some time for a couple of hours in the morning, so we went to John D. MacArthur State Park to find some geocaches.  This is one of my favorite parks in town – the beach is beautiful, the nature center is very nice, and there is a marvelous lagoon area that is protected from boaters and perfect for kayaking and paddleboarding.  We have seen dolphin and manatees in the lagoon and birds of all kinds including several bald eagle and osprey nests.  Although we have a Florida State Park family pass that gets us into the park, it was well worth buying the additional family pass for this park, because you can have unlimited use of the kayaks (a single or a double kayak) at no additional charge – something that pays for itself after the first use.  What a bargain!!

Today was beeeeeuuuuuteeeFUL!  Not too hot, not chilly, blue skies, green flora and turquoise waters.

We found a few caches before we had to head back out for our errands.

Loggerhead Marinelife Center

Later this afternoon, we headed out to Chuck E Cheese to split a personal pizza and play some games before our Special V-Day activity at Loggerhead Marinelife Center.  We had a lovely evening tour of the patients and the hospital with champagne, chocolate, and snacks.  We also got to adopt a special sea turtle (a real one and cute little stuffie).  This was a very nice alternative to the traditional dinner plans.

When we were done, we had a sushi roll with Chubby Salmon – the food is so tasty and the staff is excellent.  One of the sushi chefs grew up right around the corner from Jeff!  Another small-world-moment.
